“After my kid threw my iphone in the pool(and I left it in rice for the requisite 72 hours), I had to get a replacement. So went with a terrible Samsung Blackberry knockoff while I wait out the rest of my sentence with At and T and (please God do me this one favor) hopefully switch to Verizon early next year. How I miss my iphone. And almost as much as I miss my iphone, I miss my daughter, who I promptly left on church steps in a bassinet.”

I used jasmine rice which did not work for me. The other trick is not to try and turn your phone on or plug it in until after the rice has worked its magic. I was, however, like a pavlovian hamster impulsively turning my phone on every hour just to see if it would come back to life. The other trick to keep in mind is not to submerge it in the first place.

Definitely, it's always good to put the wet gadgets on rice!

Good advice @shlapman! I will continue trying not to submerge my electronic devices in large bodies of water ;)

@robinhudd and lazybearkoa I have regularly tried exhuming my iphone and so far no luck. I suspect I shorted it out by turning it on immediately after it went for its first and last swim. I have read stories of people bringing their phones back to life months after immersion, but it doesn't look like mine will be one of them. @robinhudd good luck with your sisters phone and more importantly, I hope she still takes your calls(on her home phone) after you got her phone wet!

If you had mentioned she was in Italy, I would have gladly flown in for a rescue mission! Keep me in mind for next one:)
