“◆ The Dark Crystal is undeniably a classic from 1982, the same year as the original Tron movie and ET. I recommend this epic fantasy to anyone who enjoys Jim Henson's works like The Muppets and The Labyrinth, or if you're into The Neverending Story or The Legend of Zelda, this is not to be missed because there is a sequel coming in 2011 titled The Power of the Dark Crystal.

The Dark Crystal is one of Jim Henson's latest and best films prior to his death in 1990. In the early 80s there were a lot of "science fiction" movies. At the time, there weren't really much to offer in the "fantasy" genre. Sure, there were some fantasy video games but not films. There was Conan the Barbarian, but there wasn't really anything else until The Dark Crystal. Now over 25 years later, the movie releases on DVD and, for the first time, it has finally made its transfer over to Blu-ray for high definition, and everything looks fantastic! I like how on this Blu-ray release, there's this treasure/object hunting "game" thing while you watch the movie, and once you've collected all the crystal shards, you can view them in the gallery with details provided on the side. The Dark Crystal a definite must-own for me since it's a Jim Henson classic.”
