“I think after watching this I hate Monique, like she did her character so well that she made me want to hate the real person. Side from that the movie is deep and I find it surprising that people do live like this but it is reality at times. I think all actors in the movie did really well actually, even Mariah who everybody knows her previous work in "Glitter"”

Has anyone here seen "Half Nelson?" I haven't seen Precious, but they struck me as similar in setting, even if the story is quite a bit different.

“I finally watched this last night after much hesitation (I heard the story was just depressing). I thought it was good--for this being the lead actress' first film role, her performance was outstanding. However, I felt the progression of the main character's story was rather hurried as soon as she gave birth to her second child. It seemed hard to believe that she would've made such a fast mental turnaround considering the years and years of abuse and neglect she's suffered. Nevertheless, it's an inspiring story and truly deserved the awards it received.”
