“Truly amazing, almost magical application enabling instant translation from a configured language to another (installed as a language package). By simply holding the phone above the text to be translated, the camera view in the phone will in real time show the translated version. Currently only Spanish->English and English->Spanish packages are available. The application will in real time replace the original text with the translated version, even to the extent of using the same font, color and other shape characteristics as the original. The translations might occasionally flicker and shift depending on the angle and steadiness of the phone, but will for the most part do an astonishing job. Hand writing is not recognized. Besides the instant visual translation, it also allows for lookup translation, i.e. typing a word and getting the various translated variants (list view) which is handy all by itself. Finally, no network connection is required to use the app!”
“Languages are sold separately, well, the one you can buy, being Spanish.”
“This is one of those apps that I'll show people who are against iPhones. It basically translates any text you take a picture of live, matching the text font, size, and color. It's a little buggy and the translations aren't great, but it's still worth checking out.”
“Word Lens, made (and actually still making) huge buzz about it. And for a good reason!
For no internet connection, no sluggish annoying google-translate-like sites or anything.
Is it just the app, looking and translating what it sees through the camera.
When you just download the app you're all up for it. And when you really use it, it ain't that attractive anymore.
In the free version, you get two options. You can either erase or reverse text. both of them haven't worked well for me, in several languages. It took it time to do what it has done (basically nothing), and even then, every slight (even the slightest!) move of the camera would make it redo what it does all over again. It's nice, it's a cool, has a great potential, but don't expect to see what's in the demo video. It's just not what it looks like.
Wither way, be sure to give it a try. It is still free...”
“This version ehich is the free one is useless. The concept of this is that you put something in english on the camera and it can transfer it to another language though the free version only flips the writing around... So if you had 'hello' it would flip it to 'olleh'. Pointless”
“this app is amazing. although the translation services only have english to spanish and spanish to english just fooling around with the word inverter and eraser is crazy. it is a little difficult to get correct but it does work”
“Great idea but doesn't deliver.”
“Very cool app, although the dictionaries are very expensive for other languages, but the reverse text trial is worth it to see how this technology can actually work.”
“If you need a menu, or sign translated, this app will do it for you! Just point the camera at a foreign language and it will translate it to english or spanish. Amazing app!”
“Really cool only works with text but it works really well. If you don't know what this is, it will take text that is written in a different language and translate it into english or any other language that you want.”
“this app is cool but you have to pay for extra featurs”
“Not as good as what you might think it would be. Didn't work at all for me.”
“Amazing the first time I saw it. Annoying that it cons you into thinking it's free and then making you buy languages in-app. But it's cool and useful if out of country.”
“Their ad looking really cool so I got the app. To bad you have to pay $5 for each add on. all this app did was waste my time. DON'T GET IT”
“very clever, though I have no need for it. A babelfish for your eyes!”
