“This was... Intriguing.”
“I'm not sure if I understood this movie, aside from the ending.
I think I only watched it for Heath Ledger, R.I.P., and for the CGI effects. Both were amazing, by the way. The actors that were cast to portray Heath Ledger inside the Imaginarium were great as well. I think it was awfully smart and practical of the Director to shoot the parts of the story outside of the Imaginarium, first and foremost.
With that, I still don't get the storyline, particularly the parts inside the Imaginarium. I'd recommend this film for CGI...and Heath Ledger. Go Heath Ledger.”
“Wow! One of the most underrated films ever!”
“The kind of movie you have to pay more than usual attention to. Felt like quitting the movie halfway, but glad I stuck with it 'cause the ending was great. Visually stunning.”
“It was actually a good movie just make sure to watch w/out any distractions.”
“A lot of people I know didn't like this movie, but I really did like it. All I can say is watch it. Lol”
“Despite the fact that bringing in three actors to replace the role originated by Heath Ledger was nothing more than a way to finish making the movie, it feels as though it was meant to be that way all along. With awe-inspiring ideas, fantastically witty dialog, and characters you would follow to the ends of the Earth, if there's anything disappointing about Terry Gilliam's latest visually stupefying effort, it's how criminally under-developed it's titular character is.”
“A little hard to get, yet a real trip.”
“Heath Ledger is beautiful in this. It's poignant, interesting, and keeps you entertained. Highly recommended.”
“The images were quite nice, but not as great of a film as I would have expected. I still recommend it though, as others might like it better than I did.”
“Don't know how to truly feel about this film. It was Heath Ledger's final film, he died while in production so they had to use Johnny Depp, Jude Law, and Colin Farrell to replace his one character within dream-like sequences. It would have been a better movie if Heath did not pass away, but even then this film would be hard for me to rate if he had not. I hope this movie gets remade in 20 or so years and see if who ever picks up this movie can pull it off better.”
“Overall, it's a fascinating and, yes, hugely imaginative premise for a film, and some of the scenery and designs were clearly excuses for Gilliam to get lost in his favorite fantasy elements and visual imagery - like the juxtaposition of light-hearted fantasy elements and scenes of urban decay (see "Fisher King," "Brazil") and the inherent sadness of old men looking back on a life of free-wheeling adventure (see "Baron Munchausen").
But...but...but...the movie's just kind of a mess. The actual STAKES are never really made all that compelling, and the fact that the Devil is not a compelling or worthwhile adversary (he seems to be rooting for Dr. Parnassus to win the whole time) just makes the story kind of stillborn.
It gives me no joy to knock Terry Gilliam or the late great Heath Ledger, but this is a misfire, plain and simple.”
“Pretty funny movie. Confused me at times though so not as good as I thought it would be.”
“This a nice movie, watch it with your family on a friday night.”
“Lots of great actors but kind of a let down. Worth a watch but don't go in with too much on the table.”
“Neat movie with great visuals (and a hot female lead).”
“A curious movie that frankly would have been better if Heath Ledger hadn't died in the middle of the movie. The actors they got to play Heath in the alternate world don't quite feel like him, and really end up feeling more like other characters, than the one they're supposed to play.”
