What is “Star Trek: First Contact”?

The eighth Star Trek movie, and the second to feature the Next Generation cast, is one of the most well-received in the franchise.

To prevent the cybernetic Borg from changing Earth's history, the crew of the Enterprise-E follows a Borg cube back to the 21st century, to a point just days before humanity's first faster-than-light flight. The story then splits between setting the legendary Zefram Cochrane (James Cromwell) back on track with his flight, and battling the Borg on-board the Enterprise itself.

“I wanted to see this one the most out of all the older Trek films. You see I'm a huge time travel buff. So I was eager to see how they would explain the concept of time travel on film. I really enjoyed this a lot. We finally get to meet cochrane here. Great. The only detractor for me was that I know nothing of TNG so I was worried I wouldn't care about the crew of the enterprise. And I was right... to an extent. I Didn't completely hate the crew, entirely. I just didn't know them and this movie operates on the assumption that you know who these people are and there history. Still I got a lot out of it. As always a must see for any Trek fans. For anyone else especially time travel fans the movie kind of treat time travel as an easy thing to overcome. The crew actually follows Klingons, I think, into the past and then seems believeably surprised. I don't know, that is what attracted me to the film and just felt like a non issue overall. Enjoy!”

fnoo I like the way that several reviews put it at the time: they ditched all the boring cast members down on Earth, and left the interesting ones up on the ship to carry the main plot.

Have you seen films 2-4? That trilogy, plus First Contact, is pretty much all you need.
