“Downloaded it only to test their new "product check-in" functionality (which I actually had trouble finding, it's still quite hidden in the game). I love the concept of rewarding people for sharing product-level info, but the process (barcode scanning on iPhone, entering barcode number on all other phones) is still very painful. And while it might drive traffic to stores (for ex, you have to scan the barcode of an Adidas tennis ball in order to unlock the "gym bag" in the game), I'm not sure it's qualified foot traffic for merchants. People can just come in, scan the item they need to unlock their rewards, and walk out without having purchased anything. Not a good indicator of consumers' tastes / intents for sure.
There is a product check-in solution that is frictionless and accurate, and it's called a credit card :-)

“I "play" this real world check-in game, but don't really know why. Maybe I'm the one being "played"? :-) I think the game itself is a bit too complicated for a light weight game, but it's aggressive use of gaming mechanics does keep me coming back. Also, pretty sure I'm a little old for the target demo, which may explain the more complex game dynamics. ”

“Really fun at first, but so many problems with their checkin feature I stopped using it (inaccurate GPS like all LBS, but then results weren't sorted by distance OR popularity OR my frequency of checkins.) I believe they've been fixing some of these in later versions though”
