So he made HBO a haven for original content, and built up the brand significantly. Then there was some trouble and he left, and he's doing it again at Starz. Spartacus is the first big one. But now it's getting interesting, as British shows like Torchwood are now being produced for, and with funding by Starz. The fourth season is airing first over here, on pay cable, before it trickles back to the UK. Nothing quite like this has happened before.

So there's a very tight relationship between the two models -- the British public funding and the US pay channels.

That's really interesting. I've always admired the British model of determining an end-point for their series.

By Arrested Development I meant Curb Your Enthusiasm. For whatever reason, I keep doing that. I think it's because they're similar kinds of phrases, with the same number of syllables, both appended to modern single-camera comedies. That, and I can see how the title would fit Larry David.
