I've always liked the first the best. It's... crunchier than the sequels. There's more variety, and more thought put into the level design. The music has stronger and more memorable themes. The visual style is odd and surreal. And I like the sense of solitude. Later on, things got too streamlined and too busy. Which sounds like it should conflict, but somehow they managed it.

“Classic sonic. Plays very well and is still played regularly on my iPhone. Controls do have an adjustment period as there are not physical buttons”
