“Call of Duty: Black Ops is definitely a huge step up from Treyarch's last contribution to the series, World at War. The game takes the payer through various Cold War conflicts (it'd be nearly impossible to say which ones actually happened and which are fabricated) dating from WWII to post-Vietnam. The campaign is extremely interesting and offers a varied set of scenarios while still stringing players through arguably the most interesting plotline in any Call of Duty game yet.
The online multiplayer seems endless. In a good way. There is a new form of currency, "CoD points" that players can use to buy guns, addons, and aesthetic additions as well. The number of maps and game types greatly outdoes World at War, if not Modern Warfare 2 as well. Nazi zombies in this game is far more challenging than in World at War, but just as fun. Developing strategy and figuring out weapon sets is even more challenging as the default maps go from four rooms to more than ten and the mystery box moves around.
Overall, if you like Call of Duty, you will love Black Ops. Treyarch finally brought a game to the table that can stand up next to Infinity Ward's work (Modern Warfare, Modern Warfare 2) in both campaign and multiplayer.”
“amazing... love this game”
“Not good control, and that's like the most important thing in a shooter... Get it, but not for the Wii.”
“This game is pretty good. Has some nice features like Zombies mode and Combat Training which can improve your skill a bit. Zombies is just pure fun! Great game. Highly suggested.”
“It's sooooo awsome! I love it. I'm terrible, but I still enjoy playing a great game...”
“Another must-have... the gameplay is so smooth (very similar to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2). They've added a ton of awesomeness to the campaign mode, which makes the (somewhat) standard missions even more fun.”
“This is an OK game. I purchased this by mistake because I already purchased the Prestige Edition. But it is quite something new, but I mean seriously? They could have done a major improvement on the graphics. The graphics look like World at War's graphics with a few minor tweaks. Its like a combo of Modern Warfare 2 and World at War. But I have to say that the maps are more detailed and interesting. Yes, and of course there are "Zombies" and it's really nothing new. They could have added new maps or something but wow. Mulitplayer is usually the same as always, but I like how the unlocking system works. You have to buy your attachments and camos. You can also play "Wager Matches" and I think that was the best feature of them game, it's basically just like gambling. That's a plus. The campaign is moderately long, just like any war game would be like. In conclusion I give this game a 7.5/10.”
“More Call of Duty is not a bad thing. CoD is always a great title to play whether online or solo.”
“One of the best FPS's I have played for a while, the zombies gametype assures you hours of endless fun.”
“i thought it wiuld be better but i mean i cnt complain about it but graphics could be better”
“Great game, great graphics, great story.
The biggest difference in this game from the other Call of Duty games (next gen versions), is that you know what you character looks like, and you hear him speak. In the other 3 next gen Call of Duty games you don't know what you look like or what you sound like, giving you the feeling that its really you playing inside the character.
I think Treyarch did a great job at this game and it does the Call of Duty franchise very well.
I have yet to play the multiplayer but if it is anything like what the last few have been, it will be very good.
The campaign is packed full of action, twists and turns, people from the past that fans will be happy to see, and more action! The added feature of flying vehicles is awesome, you can't ever crash them so you can have all the fun you want with them.
I highly recommend this game.”
“It all roughly depends on if you like to yell at your tv or not. This game can make you extremly happy or extremly mad... be warned”
“k, so, seriously, i have no idea why the games i buy for my PS3 magically look like 360 games in this page. ANYHOW ! the game is........... is..........is........ if u have MODERN WARFARE 2 u know how it is, there r some differences tho, small in size, but BIG in the the gameplay, like the smooth controls, or the zombie modes (wich r damn amazing) so the game is rlly good, but just for call of duty fans, but if you are looking for a new shooting experience and an AMAZING zombie mode, i would recommend you to buy RED DEAD REDEMPTION, and because i got UNDEAD NIGHTMARE (zombie mode) by the PSN, im gonna make a short review about it: IF U DONT BUY/DOWNLOAD THIS DLC, I SWEAR GOD, U WILL DIE!!! THIS MOST BE IN YOUR MOST HAVE LIST !! seriously!”
“Love this game best COD ever!”
“Call of Duty: Black Ops is... one of my more disappointing experiences. Sure, it runs the tried-and-true CoD engine, with expected multiplayer and a story-driven singleplayer experience, but that's the problem: it's more of the same.
Same: gameplay. You're just going through the motions, though I admit to liking and appreciating Weapons Training and Wager Match modes.
Same: story. Treyarch just can't seem to stray from older, never modern settings. Black Ops takes place mainly in the Cold War era, but there are multiple and frequent trips back in time to the Vietnam War, and even one level taking place just after World War 2. I was impressed that they brought back Reznov and Dimitri from World at War, however; I always appreciate recurring characters.
As much as I just complained about Black Ops being no different from its previous incarnations, I really would appreciate if we stopped going back in time. I want the series to move forward, staying in the recent times and using new, original stories rather than revisiting old history and adding a few things here and there. As it is, the game feels like an expansion pack rather than a new installment.
Buy it if you need the latest yearly Call of Duty or like staying with the hordes of multiplayer opponents, otherwise wait and see what comes out next year.”
