TextNow App
TextNow, a $1 app from Enflick, aims to let you send and receive text messages without needing an SMS plan. Like its numerous competitors, TextNow bypasses the built-in Messages app on the iPhone, enabling iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad users alike to send and receive text messages. TextNow performs this trick by converting your friends’ phone numbers into e-mail addresses; you use a custom “textnow.me” address within the app to exchange messages with your friends in a familiar, iChat-esque interface.

But let’s be clear about one thing from the get-go: The $1 price tag and the “Unlimited Free Texting” name are both a bit deceptive: TextNow initially grants you three months of unlimited texting, and you can purchase a year’s worth of unlimited messaging for $4, or a lifetime subscription for $8. Those prices are obviously considerably cheaper than any mobile carrier’s texting rates, but they ain’t free.

TextNow’s user interface is a worthy competitor to the Messages app. The app looks good, and is highly customizable: You can change the color scheme, set background images, tweak the alert sounds, use landscape mode, access your address book (including contact photos), and even connect the app with Facebook to download images for friends you don’t yet have photos for. And since TextNow supports push, you’ll get notified whenever you receive a new text. (iPod touch and Wi-Fi-only iPad owners, of course, can only send or receive messages when they have a Wi-Fi connection.)

You’ll find in-app purchases all over TextNow. Beyond the messaging subscriptions, you can also select from a huge amount of extra background imagery, and oodles of different alert tones.

Remember how long it took for MMS to come to the iPhone? It still hasn’t made its way to TextNow, so if you’re looking to send photos and videos to your friends, the app isn’t for you.

Unfortunately, though, there’s one bit of worse news: Early in my testing, the messages I sent simply didn’t go through. I could receive texts, but not a single message that I sent to AT&T, T-Mobile, or Sprint customers went through. Obviously, this issue is of paramount importance for TextNow. It took e-mails to the app’s developer—who responded quickly—to get texts to those numbers working for me, and it was a problem he seemed familiar with. It’s possible I got very unlucky, and the developer did fix my problem. But I would definitely recommend starting with the free TextNow Lite to confirm it will work with your contacts. The free version limits you to 30 outgoing messages per day, and includes ads. If you’re a light texter, this version of the app should suit you fine.
Love this and also not to be forgoten whatsapp too! :L
Talking Tom Cat App
This little furry character is hilarious! Talking Tom Cat is an Entertainment app developed by Outfit7 featuring a 3D cat living inside your iPhone. This cat will repeat everything you say with his own high pitched cat vocals. Matching mouth movements of the recording, along with the occasional yawn, blink, and other lively gestures add to the realism and make it that much more entertaining.
You can interact directly with Tom the cat by poking, petting, punching and tail pulling. Each action will get a different reaction whether it’s a purrrr, or an OUCH! Strike Tom one too many times and he falls to the floor in dizzy fashion. Additional props include a glass directly beside Tom. When tapped, it’s filled with milk for our crazy cat to chug. If you leave Tom for too long unattended, he will start getting bored then yawn or sneeze.
While the interaction with Tom is an added benefit, the real value is the accuracy in which Tom mimics your every word. You’ll know when Tom is listening (recording) because he will turn an ear up, along with his paw. The lip movement along with that crazy cat voice repeating every word is pretty amusing. I was surprised by just how much the app will pick up. Any surrounding noise will be recorded. I did a test by letting Tom listen to some Pavarotti on my computer and sure enough he belted out every word just like the opera singer, just with a slightly higher octave. The app sound effects are fun and his little growls add to his quirky self. I also saw that when Tom “talked,” or played back the recording, the pitch was appropriate to the pitch of the speaker; meaning, a lower-voice speaker resulted in a lower pitch, whereas a higher voice resulted in a higher voice, as opposed to a one generic pitch for the cat.
Another really cool feature is that you can actually record up to 30 seconds of Tom in action. After the recording is done directly upload that to YouTube or Facebook or send a direct email of the video. This a great feature for sharing your cat alter ego. Send your friends a message delivered by Tom and it will surely get a few laughs.
One drawback are the ads, but for a freebie that’s something that can be easily overlooked considering the comical nature of this app . Taking Tom Cat brings entertainment to the iPhone at NO Charge. You can’t beat that. There are similar apps out but none at the free price point that offer this level of quality, features, and flat-out fun.

Totally recommend you go get this! :) Compare to those updates like santa dinosaurs robot i still prefer and love this more!

Night Vision+ FREE App
If we only wanted to take pictures during the day, our iPhone camera would be just fine. However, let’s admit that night photos on an iPhone don’t usually turn out the best. But what can you do? One option is to use photo manipulation tools like NightVision Pro, developed by Cogitap Software. It doesn’t fix Apple’s deficiencies, but it does give you some new fun options. You can take photos in low light and use the app to add a little more light. You can add different filters to the shot, capture the action, and explore your creative side.

How does it work? By using the apps ‘Slow shutter’ function the exposure time is doubled allowing the camera to capture more light. The downside of this is that the camera (your phone) is sensitive to any movements, and if you aren’t careful, the image will blur.

Nightvision Pro is easy to use. You can view a demo on YouTube before you buy. There are only a few features you need to understand in order to use this app. The app opens just like your normal camera app. As you focus on your subject you can swipe the screen vertically to adjust the light level and achieve different effects. At the bottom right hand corner of the screen there is a button that looks like a gear. Click on that icon to enable/disable the slow shutter, select a picture size (either 512 x 384 or 1024 x 768), enable/disable preview filter and enable/disable shutter sound.

On the bottom right of the screen is a MODE button. You push that to change the color of your image. You can choose between three colors. The first mode is Green, with this choice the photos look like they have been taken with night vision goggles. With the Gray mode, you capture an image that reminds you of a grainy old photo. With red, depending on your point of view, it either looks like heat signatures or a 60′s psychedelic poster.

This app is in the Entertainment category for a good reason. It doesn’t give you flawless night photos in any light, but it does offer you the opportunity to capture photos in low light with an arty flare. While testing this app I took some outside photos in low light and the quality was excellent. When it was completely dark the images were hard to capture. However, as long as there is some light to amplify, this app works well. While testing I took pictures of a couple of stuffed animals. Both the teddy bear and the pig looked like kidnap victims in a ransom note. The pig looked frightened and the teddy bear looked wistful about his plight. I can easily imagine using this app to create Halloween party invitations or to add cool new photos on Facebook. Using the red mode I could even create frameable art reminiscent of the late 60’s.

This low cost app is packed with fun. I gave it a 10 because as an entertainment app it delivers completely. Again, I repeat, this is not an app that will make all night photos perfect – nor does it profess to be. This is an app that you buy and move it to share space with the ones you use daily. Probably beneath your camera app so that it is easily available. I know I have just scratched the surface of its uses and I look forward to seeing what else I can do. Buy the app, create your own images and add your comments on iTunes or at this site. I’d love to hear what you are doing with it.

NightVision Pro is compatible with the iPhone only. It requires the iPhone OS 3.1.2 or later.

BoBo Brother Defence(Tower 4x4) App
Sure, you could play a tower defense game where you place towers in fixed positions around a track; and sure, you could play one where you can freely place them to form mazes; but have you played one where the towers create a vertical obstacle for monsters to bypass? BoBo Brother Defence by Joybean is all about stacking the so-called BoBo's on top of each other to make use of their individual abilities and stop the incoming waves of enemies. The game gives players a 5x6 grid to drag and stack towers in to place, creating a giant obstacle that hopefully delays the rolling enemies long enough to take them all out. Cash is earned and spent on building new towers and upgrades, however if you should want to change the formation of your towers you'll need to sell the blocks from the top-down, so planning your final configuration is a must. The simple cartoonish visuals are fun, but fairly boring as players are treated to the same enemies and attack animations regardless of the blocks used. Their expressions are different, but this doesn't lend them much in the way of individual characterization. Also, the gameplay is severely limited and even when using a grid full of the game's most powerful final upgrades you'll struggle to break beyond a certain point. This is in part due to the frustratingly limited AI that focuses on units despite others quickly rolling past, refusing to apply the slowing effect on those that need it. BoBo Brother Defence is a quirky TD title, but it only provides a brief challenge before becoming repetitive and impossible to complete. App Store Info The BoBo brother are coming! they are in a tower defence adventure! BoBo family had four brothers, each BoBo brother has a special ability, use these to your adventure and try to survive as long as you can! Build these to keep the enemies from reaching the other side. when they do, you lose lives, and you don’t want that! Should pay attention to the tower with and placed. To put it quite simply, Vevo is great. The interface is very well laid out and quite easy to use. On opening the app you are greeted with a slide show of the latest artists and videos available on Vevo. Tapping one will take you directly to the video. Looking down below the eye-catching art work you will find the navigation bar for Vevo.

Tapping an artist/song name/video will bring you directly to the live video. Some videos have a short ad before them but that is to be expected of a free service and is hardly worth being concerned about. Upon ending a video or exiting a video you will be presented with a list of suggestions for similar videos, the option to view comments and the option to purchase the video in iTunes, share the video or add it to your playlist.

Choosing "Artists" at the bottom of Vevo is similar to "Videos". It will bring you to a sortable list of artists. Choosing "Playlist" will bring you to a list of pre-made playlists. These include things like "Hot Videos", "Blah!Mood", "Summerlicious" and several others which are sure to be worth watching. You can also view the charts and staff picks from the playlists tab. It is possible to manage your own custom playlist as well.

9 Innings: Pro Baseball 2011 FREE App
Being an avid baseball game fan since Bases Loaded on the NES (I’ll never forget the first time Star attacked the pitcher), I was quite excited to see a new baseball game to arrive in the App Store. If you can look past all the fancy graphics and crazy control options that exist in many of the new baseball games out there, all you really need is a simple pitching and hitting mechanic along with simple fielding and base running. People don’t want complicated in baseball, they just want the thrill of the pitcher vs. the batter.

Com2uS, of Homerun Battle 3D fame (and also the Inotia series), is a cartoony baseball sim that strips baseball to its necessities and throws in some extras to keep the game fun. The main focus of the game, the pitcher vs. batter dual, is fairly well thought out, but does have its flaws. The pitching, by far the best aspect of the game, is your standard console pitching affair. Pick your pitch type, tap where you want the pitch to go, and then tap again once the accuracy circle gets down to its smallest point. There seems to be a good balance of your pitchers skill to how well the computer hits you, and there really is a good visual representation of speed change. A changeup looks like a changeup and a fastball looks like a blur.

The hitting is where I think Com2uS could really improve this title. Instead of, lets say… using the amazing batting system in Homerun Battle 3D, they simplified the system to just hitting the button when the ball gets to the plate. The timing isn’t easy, but there is no real skill needed, other than timing, to hit a good ball. For game speed sake, the hitting system work fine, but I would love to play through a game with a well thought out, but not too complicated, batting system. Merge Homerun Battle 3D and 9 Innings 2011 together and this is a 5 star app for sure.

In fact, if Com2uS would merge the graphics together too, 9 Innings 2011 would be a bit better. There’s really nothing wrong with the graphics, they just aren’t as sharp and vibrant as some of the other games in the Com2uS library. I just love the style and sharpness of Homerun Battle 3D, and being put out by the same company, find it hard to just accept the rough colors and the harsh fonts.

Past the game itself though is a surprisingly deep League Mode complete with full MLB rosters (unfortunately with fake team names though), a fairly fun Home Run Mode, and an interesting Card Box that keeps you playing. As you play games and do good things (like get double plays and hit home runs), you get a certain amount of points. You can use these points later on to upgrade your team via buying boosts to their player cards. There are also various upgrades that you can get at the “Shop” that upgrade things like your team cheerleader, “inning Jump cards”, and level up success. In all reality, there may be too many upgrades, and too many terms to deal with for the average gamer. Dealing with upgrade success rates rather than just knowing that 500 points gives X player X power boost can be a bit cumbersome

Bungee Ball 2 App
After searching for some new games for my iPhone, I came across Bungee Ball 2 by browsing through the iTunes App Store. I was encouraged to download the game because it was free and it had received some great reviews. However, I knew that I had to download it for myself in order to really know if the game was good in my experience.

Bungee Ball 2 is basically a game that uses physics for the iPhone. There are 100 levels, which surprised me at first because the game is free. I commend any developer who creates a free game that includes more than just a handful of levels. The ball sits in a "cup" that is attached to a bungee cord, and the player simply taps on the screen in order to launch the ball and try to do some tricks and complete each level. This is a totally new gaming concept to me, so in that case Bungee Ball 2 gets another extra point for creativity.

Another great feature is the graphics. Although they are not the greatest that I have seen, they are still good for the price that I paid for the app. I didn't pay a penny, so I do not think I can really complain about the quality of the graphics. Still, on a scale of 1 to 10, I would give Bungee Ball 2's graphics quite a high rating, perhaps in the range of 7-8.

The gameplay, however, is where I really enjoy playing Bungee Ball 2. I was not expecting the type of gameplay that Bungee Ball 2 offers, which really took me by surprise yet ultimately impressed me. My first impression was really good. I had to try the first few levels many times until I got used to playing the game, but once I did I could not put my iPhone down. I wanted to keep playing in order to get to the next level and see what I had to accomplish next. I have not played very many games that have done this even on the first impression.

With that in mind, I would really recommend Bungee Ball 2. This is one of the best games that I have played, and I am happy to say that it was free. Even some of my purchases have not surpassed Bungee Ball 2's quality. Anyone who wants a fun and exciting game will want to try Bungee Ball 2.
Cooking Dash Lite App
Cooking Dash is a long awaited sequel to Diner Dash and it has got better. The chef has packed up and left to star in a cooking show, and leaves Flo and her Grandma to run the diner. You get into more of a realistic experience as you fry, grill and blend your way to the top of the restaurant game.

Review

So, the story is you (and Grandma) have to cook and serve the customers. They queue up and you seat them by dragging them to the seat you want them to sit at, they view the menu and you make what they want, serve it to them, then collect their dosh and clear their dishes. As the game progresses the pace increases and you get busier and more complicated orders. You can buy new décor and new machines with your hard earned cash. There are 4 different diners and you start afresh with each one. You have a goal to achieve every level but you can go for an expert score. You can earn more money by chaining events and by seating customers in the same colour seat as their outfit. The game becomes quite challenging and it does take a bit of work to get expert on all levels – especially towards the end. I love playing it over again, its not good if it’s too easy.

The graphics show a great improvement from the original and the whole look of the game is very bright and colourful. The screen is busy but it is also detailed. What can I say, it just looks yummy! The graphics are almost mouth watering, I got so hungry whilst playing this game!

You control the actions by tapping the various foods, grills, fryers and customers and they are very simple to use, you soon get the hang of it as the controls are very instinctive. A problem with some of the time management games is that they are a little cramped and they don’t always select what you tell it too, im glad to say that this was not a problem for this game.

The background music is not too intrusive, fairly typical music for this type of game. The great thing about the sound is there is no nasty customer noises, only GOOD sound effects of the food cooking, which is nice! Definitely adds a nice atmosphere to the game getting your mind more involoved in the Cooking Dash world

Recommendation

If you’re a time management fan I would definitely recommend this game, but it is fairly bog standard stuff. There isn’t much in this game that hasn’t been done before, or makes it stick out but is still a lot of fun. It’s reduced launch price of $2.99 (rather than $4.99) makes it even better value.Anyhow u can still always get a lite version! :)

Rhapsody App
Rhapsody users rejoice! Anyone with a Rhapsody account and an iPhone should download Rhapsody for iPhone immediately. It's a deep, well-executed application that adds serious value to anyone paying $14.99 a month for the Rhapsody-To-Go service and it might even attract a new faction of Rhapsody users. The only major drawback is that steady playback depends on having a Wi-Fi or high-quality 3G connection; there is no offline mode to compensate. Buzz up!on Yahoo! For those who aren't familiar with Rhapsody, it's an online music service for which you pay $12.99-$14.99 a month to listen to a catalog of more than eight million streaming songs from major and independent record labels. All in all, we like the service, but think it the price could be a little lower. For this review, I tested the new app on a 32GB iPhone 3GS running iPhone OS 3.1 and alternately connected to Wi-Fi and AT&T 3G. To get the app, just visit the iTunes App Store and search for Rhapsody. Specifications Free Yes More Interface When you load up the app for the first time, you have to input your user name and password. Any regular Rhapsody user will be at home here, because the entire song catalog is at your fingertips. Rhapsody's interface is clean and intuitive. A black bar across the screen bottom helps you navigate. You can choose between Queue, My Library, Browse, Search, and Settings. Queue is where you'll likely spend a lot of time, because it lets you pick what you're listening to and helps you make playlists. My Library lets you play artists, albums, and songs that you pre-selected on your PC. Browse lets you see popular songs, new songs, and songs by genre or artist. While in the Now Playing mode, you can tap and hold on the screen for more options—one of them directing you to the iTunes Store so you can buy the song you're listening to. Competing app Slacker Mobile Radio also sends you to iTunes to find songs, while Pandora does not. Sound Quality Rhapsody said the music streams at 64 kilobits per second. While it isn't as good as Web-based Rhapsody's 128 kbps, I found it to be acceptable. However, in my tests, Slacker and Pandora both sounded slightly sharper and more polished over both 3G and Wi-Fi. A rep from RealNetworks said they plan to improve sound quality in a future release. The app works fine with any pair of standard headphones thanks to the iPhone's 3.5mm headset jack. It also worked well when I paired the iPhone with a set of Altec Lansing BackBeat 903/906 Bluetooth stereo headphones. Problems My biggest qualm with Rhapsody for iPhone is that it's dependent on the quality of your 3G service. There's no offline mode. When AT&T service was unreliable (an all too frequent occurrence in New York City), songs would delay and I'd have to either find Wi-Fi or turn off the app. Wi-Fi, as you might have already guessed, works the best for streaming music. Album artwork downloads quickly and songs start promptly. A way to save some songs for later playback would have been nice here. An offline mode would also help save battery life; for now, Rhapsody runs the radio all the time, so it's a major battery drain. RealNetworks said it plans to add an offline mode to the app in a future release. Slacker and Pandora, the other two top streaming music apps for the iPhone, don't offer an offline mode either. Another thing that bugged me was the low-resolution album artwork on the Now Playing screen. I understand keeping it low-res to take less time for loading, but it's distracting. If every album cover has to look like a blurry bootleg copy, why not just make the album art take up less space on the screen to make it less pixelated? Slacker makes their art smaller to make it look better, but Pandora's artwork is just as grimy. Streaming radio iPhone apps Slacker Mobile Radio and Pandora both have extensive catalogs, but don't allow you to pick specific songs you want to hear. Simplify Media lets you stream your own iTunes catalog to your iPhone at a much lower price than Rhapsody, but you probably don't own eight million songs, and Simplify requires you to keep your PC on all the time. Conclusion There are plenty of streaming music services for the iPhone, but none of them let you pick your playlist from a catalog as deep as Rhapsody's. For musical control freaks, Rhapsody is a godsend, as long as you can stay in signal range and are willing to put up with the battery drain of streaming.
LED LIGHT iPhone 4 Edition Free App
I never thought I would review a flashlight app on this website. I don't mean to imply that an iPhone isn't useful as a flashlight. For as long as I've had an iPhone — and even before that when I had a Palm Treo — I've occasionally used the screen of my phone as a flashlight. For example, if I find myself walking upstairs in the dark at night, I may turn on my iPhone to make sure that there are no children's toys that I might trip over. Nevertheless, I've always thought that it was a little silly to pay for a flashlight app considering that most any app will light up your iPhone screen enough to provide some light in the dark. If the iPhone doesn't seem bright enough, just tap an app like Mail or the Calendar that has a lot of white space.

But with the iPhone 4, there is finally a real reason for a flashlight app. The LED light that provides a flash for the camera provides much more light than the iPhone screen, even if your brightness is turned all the way up. Thus, having an app that turns on the light quickly can be quite useful.

The iPhone 4 has not been out very long, but we already have a ton of flashlight apps, many of which cost $0.99. I haven't tested any of them because there is an app called LED Light for iPhone 4 Free that does the job just fine and, as its title suggests, is free.

The app could not be more simple. Start the app and you see a button. Touch the button and the LED light comes on. At that point, I recommend that you just leave the button in the on position. Every time you exit the app the LED light goes off, and every time you return to the app the LED light comes back on.
Using the flash for a long period of time surely wears down the battery, but I suspect that when you use an app like this as a flashlight, you are typically just using it for a minute or less. If you plan to use the app as a strobe light for your next disco party, consider plugging in your iPhone first.

By the way, this is one of the first apps that I've used that has Apple's new iAds in it. If you are curious to see how an iAd works, that is another reason to download this app. And I cannot think of a better app for an iAd. It makes little difference what is on the screen while you are using this app — all that really matters is that the LED light goes on — so why not stick an iAd in there. It certainly doesn't get in the way.

[UPDATE: MacRumors reports that Jason Ting, the developer of LED Light for iPhone 4 Free, made $1,372 from iAds revenue in just the first day that his app was available. Apparently, giving away a free app can be quite profitable! To be fair, though, this may just be a lot of people who, like me, saw this app as an opportunity to try out iAds for the first time. As more and more apps have iAds and thus the novelty to users wears off, revenue to developers may decrease.]

As I noted above, we already have several apps in the App Store that do the same thing. In fact, before I downloaded this one, I downloaded the free app LED Torch Flashlight and it works very similar to LED Light for iPhone 4 Free except that it lacks the strobe light function. Even though I doubt I will use that function very often, why not get one that has that feature just in case you want it. Having said that, I'm sure that we will soon see many more LED flashlight apps for the iPhone 4 adding lots of additional features. Perhaps we will see one that integrates with Facebook, posting a status update every time you use the app. "My light is now on." "My light is now off." Maybe there is some feature to be added to a flashlight app that will actually have some utility, but for now the LED Light for iPhone 4 Free app seems to do everything I would want. And the price is right.

If you own an iPhone 4, I think that you will find this app useful from time to time.
HELLKID : hook & jump App
Hellkid is a simple run, jump and swing game that features demonic characters, helpful items, and various stages to play in. You play as Devi, a demon boy, who is interested in human ways. After failing to make a deal with an evil sorcerer, Devi must go through the abyss of hell in order to reach the human world.

Gameplay

While you feel like you are playing Spiderman with two little red horns, your goal in HellKid is to collect those blue and gold flames. The running, jumping and swinging are only the ways to get the flames while not falling into endless number of pits. The blue flames are everywhere and you can trade them to get cool items that allow you to jump higher, or run faster or even surviving a pitfall, and unlock new stages. That sounds all great, until you learn that these items’ special powers don’t last long. What if you want to be a great jumper all the time? That’s where the gold flames come in handy: you can buy characters with gold flames. That’s right, in addition to Devi, you have 4 more characters, each possesses a special power (like high jump) that Devi doesn’t have. The only challenge is that each additional character costs you 15K-20K gold flames and unlike blue flames, the gold ones are very hard to come by.

Sound

Hellkid has both background music and sound FX bites. Background tracks have a dark and deep tone that help create the hellish environment and fit the game’s theme well. Sound bites aren’t that many; you will hear some popping sound when you collect the flames. Sorry, iPod music fans. There isn’t an option to play your own music, at least not in the current version.

Conclusion

It’s hard to find a good platformer on the iPhone/iPod touch, HellKid: Hook & Jump fills the void with a good amount of gameplay and ton of replay value. The level design plus additional characters make the game fun, and touch control is smooth and easy to use. The newest version fixed iOS 4 issues. For $0.99, the game is a steal for what you get out of.
Ratings (scale of 1 to 5):

Graphics: - 4.5 - Graphics are good, but the characters are the shinning stars.
Sound: - 4 - Great BGM, minimal sound FX. No iPod music option.
Controls: - 5 - Touch control is smoothly and flawless.
Gameplay: - 4.5 - Ton of gameplay, but additional characters are too hard to get.
Yelp App
Yelp for iPhone contains all the ingredients you'd expect from the well-known business-rating and reviews site, and each new version layers on more muscle.

Yelp on iPhone cleanly displays user-reviewed listings for restaurants, bars, banks, and so on, utilizing the iPhone's GPS know-how to target your current neighborhood. Each listing squeezes in the address, user ratings, distance, and price range. Mapping capabilities show you how to get there, and a call button can help you make the reservation. Feeds featuring your activities, your friends' ratings and tips, and all rating and tips for businesses nearby bring the app some of the same social-networking qualities as its beehive online. In addition to those, certain scheduling capabilities would be welcome, like sending a listing as an invitation for lunch.

Yelp for iPhone strikes a nice balance between community features--like scrolling through photos and "checking in" at a location--with mobile musts. We're especially thinking of the Special Offers feature that seeks out deals nearby, movable Google maps, and an integrated browser. A new augmented reality feature, called "monocle," shows you what's nearby when you take in your surroundings through the iPhone's camera.

Yelp's iPhone app still lacks the capability to write a rated review from the iPhone or iPod Touch, but two features provide a thin workaround. One lets you write short, 140-character tips and observations; from the other you draft a rated review and save it to finish and post from a computer. Despite that, Yelp is rounding out rough edges and quickly becoming a powerful and cutting-edge mobile app.
Totally recommend!

PAC-MAN Lite App
Namco Games has come to your rescue and brought along their most successful arcade game ever, PAC-MAN for your iPhone or iPod touch. PAC-MAN Lite is the free version of the two offerings from Namco. The gameplay uses the classic joystick to move around and gobble up the old blinking Power Pellets and munch on various fruity snacks.

How many quarters did you spend on the old arcade game back in the day? This version of the game is sold in the App Store for $7.99 which is about half a roll of quarters. There is also a free version of this game, and yes im just having the free version :/

To control your moves in 3 different ways: 1) using a soft joystick on the bottom of the screen. 2) using swipe method, you can swipe your fingers on the iPhone to indicate where you want PAC-MAN to go. 3) Using the built in accelerometer you can just tilt you iPhone or iPod touch and move around the game board that way (we think this is the most intuitive method).

Complete with the soundtrack audio and the retro 80’s look and feel graphics, this is one iPhone game to snap up right away. So forget all the 3D Xbox, PS3 hype and check out this classic blast from the past.

Side Note: Google featured Pacman on their homepage for one day and now they have decided to provide it permanantly, so you can still play the game by going to http://www.google.com/pacman/. The Google version uses HTML5 and Javascript (Not Flash) so you can use it on your iPhone/iPad/iPod touch. Previously, various other web based versions of the game were created.
Pocket Frogs App
Pocket Frogs is perhaps the first “freemium” game that I’ve played on the app store that lets you do something other than sit and wait for something to happen. As much as I like organizing crops and barnyards, it is nice to have something to play

In Pocket Frogs, you are in charge of a frog nursery that breeds frogs and either sells them for profit or keeps them for, well, pleasure. Most of the game is just like any other Farmville-esque game, just with a few extras. You still have to wait for your frogs to hatch and “mature,” there are plenty of add-ons that you can spend in-game coins on to make your habitat “prettier,” and of course there are growth potions to speed up the process. If you want to really speed the game up, which is by no means necessary, prepare to shell out some dough.

While you’re waiting for your little froggies to hatch though, there is a “Pond” minigame that at least gives you something to do while you wait. At first, the pond is used to mature your frog so you can sell or breed it, but it soon becomes a platform to find all sorts of goodies. While you jump around in the pond from lilypad to lilypad, you encounter gift baskets, money, and other frogs that you can breed with. Fortunately for the gamers out there, every time you breed you also gain XP, so there are ways to gain XP without waiting. Once your place becomes full though you can’t take any more in, so you have to either get a new tank, or sell off some buddies.

Throughout the game, you are given little missions that ask for certain frogs. Once you get a mission, it is up to you to “create” the frog by doing some selective breeding. It’s not a ton of excitement, but it is something to do.

All in all, if you are a fan of “freemium” games (you know who you are), Pocket Frogs is a pretty good option. I personally prefer more of a Sim City like experience (e.g., We Rule), but I do see the value in having something to do all the time instead of waiting for hours on end. Having a game that I can’t play for X number of hours just drives me nuts, and if I’m going to spend money, I’d rather get a game that brings me constant enjoyment.
