From what I've read it's basically a shot-for-shot remake, except with most of the sex, violence, language, and substance abuse chopped out. And no personality either.

i don't know if i've ever heard the phrase "screw the pooch" before!
fnoo
That's a pretty old expression. I don't know if kids use it these days, but I'm guessing it's been around since at least WWII.
fnoo
Ah. The WWII expression is, if you'll pardon, "fuck the dog"; the slightly-euphemized version is from Tom Wolfe's 1979 book about the early space program, The Right Stuff. Surprised that this exact phrasing is so new, and that is has such a curiously specific origin.

Yeah, it seems like it's pretty hard for shows to jump the pond. Have you found a show that you think managed well? (I think The Office managed, but that depends on who you ask.) ;p

As with The Office, the US version of Queer as Folk was arguably more successful than the original. All in the Family was one of the biggest sitcoms in US history. Sanford & Son was a pretty big success. I wouldn't call Three's Company a total flop, either.

Lol. I feel like the 70s is more rife with comedy than the '80s or '90s. You think they're gonna try it again? That '50s Show? That '20s Show? :D

That '70s Show is a deliberate update of Happy Days. So the '50s have been done. That '20s show is an interesting idea. Not sure if it so much has that key nostalgia factor going for it, though. The over-100 set is kind of a diminishing demographic.
