A behind the scenes look as he prepared for his last hurrah. Lots of music & dancing, very little controversy.

@sumeetparmar told me about this. I finally got around to watching it. It's a captivating tale of leadership and perseverance in the unknown. Shackleton's job posting for sailors on his expedition loosely resembles startup job postings: "Men wanted for hazardous journey, small wages, bitter cold, long months of complete darkness, constant danger, safe return doubtful, honor and recognition in case of success."

Just got past the 30th level... this could take forever

Read about ceo on pitchfork and listened to a few tracks before buying the whole album. Pretty run-of-the-mill indie album without a super distinctive sound, but very listenable from end-to-end.

Checking out Facebook Places
tophtucker
pud, agreed. you really ought to be able to (easily!) filter by Friend List.
generally, i really like Places. foursquare actually feels more "mature" (as a product) in a lot of ways, and, i must admit, i kind of like the badges and all... but the fb userbase can't be beat.

I don't really get the appeal of this. What, facebook woke up one day and decided, "Time to take our stalking to the next level"?

Impulsebuyer, I wish I could rate your comment as funny
impulsebuyer
thank you. now just imagine that being said with a Jerry Seinfeld voice.

A documentary about LeBron James and his friends who grew up together playing basketball in Akron.
impulsebuyer
now this is cool. It's funny seeing lebron almost normal sized for a change, although as a high schooler he already had an NBA body. Insane

A thriller in the mold of Oceans 11, except it's a documentary! I can see why it won an academy. Ric O'Barry is an amazing character.
ashvin
A documentary about advertising that's dripping with self-indulgence. Couldn't finish it.

One of the numerous Japanese restaurants in sleepy downtown Los Altos. Not very good. The fish didn't smell fresh. There was a fly in my water. And the vegetarian gyoza? It wasn't vegetarian.

Yearly membership fee for the local indoor soccer facility.

Bought a pair of sambas from the store before my last game.

A political documentary on the 2004 Presidential campaign in Ohio. The director received great access to both sides of the aisle, so there are strategic insights & admissions from both the Democrats and the Republicans. "Everyone *says* they hate negative ads. They also say they watch Jim Lehrer's news hour when they're actually watching desperate housewives."
ashvin
I can't get enough of these political documentaries. This one is about the improbable campaign of Jeff Smith running for US Congress in St. Louis. Jeff Smith has zero political experience and everyone, including his friends & family, ridicules his ambitions. Yet Smith tirelessly pounds the pavement building incredible momentum. "First they ignore you. Then they laugh at you. Then they fight you. Then you win."
jacq
have you seen the original 'mr. smith goes to washington'? jimmy stewart's amazing in it!

Fantastic documentary about a US political consulting firm (including James Carville) working on a Bolivian presidential campaign! It was fascinating to watch them navigate a foreign political climate in a time of major unrest in Bolivia. I could watch this stuff for hours on end...

Watched this last night on the recommendations of a few folks. @jason is heavily featured! Josh Harris is an extremely eccentric character. @pud did you know him?
pud
Nice! I didn't know him well back then, but have gotten to know him since the movie came out. Was lucky enough to hang out with him a bunch at the Sundance Film Festival when the movie premiered. Bonus: If you watch closely, they show a screenshot of F-dcompany.com in one of the scenes.
jason
amazing film. josh lived with me for 14 months after the film screened at Sundance.
andreah
we hosted Josh at Razorfish for a Q&A in June, he just got a shout out from Tech Crunch on his new project The WIred CIty http://techcrunch.com/2010/07/11/wired-city-josh-harris-video/

Great documentary on the food industry in the US and how our farms have basically become factories.
sxhafeez
I was quite horrified for a while. But then I forgot all about it. Thanks for the reminder.

Note to self: Avoid this movie.

Have you seen any of the stuff on High Fructose Corn Syrup too?

Mesmerizing music from a mesmerizing movie. The movie follows Zidane around a pitch for an entire game in a very poetic, meditative way. Here's a clip from the movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJNPDlzF4Wg
robinhudd
I saw this its awesome, look up george best he also had some immense skills like zizou :)
ashvin
Yeah, I heard there was a similar George Best documentary, but I can't find it. Do you know what it's called?
ashvin
Also, if you like these kinds of movies, you should check out Spike Lee's "Kobe Doin' Work", which is extremely similar in style to the Zidane movie.
robinhudd
The one I remember is called George Best Legend Maverick Genius which was made pre 2005 before he died there were a few more made after 2005 but I remember these all being specials made by the BBC.
If your into football history you also can't go wrong looking up the Busby Babes and the famed Duncan Edwards who was said to be a better player than Best.
Thanks for the Kobe recommendation will look it up.

Killing time on Hulu. I find Michael Moore's documentaries pretty entertaining, and I enjoy how he sensationalizes this stuff. This documentary wasn't that interesting, but it was fun to watch someone attempt to attack Michael Moore using Moore's own techniques and documentary style.
fancypants
Yeah. I thought it was pretty lame. I'm no big fan or anything of Moore, but I thought that the film's arguments were based on nonsense.

My current addiction. I listened to the entire album on repeat several times this weekend.
