The Art of the Steal
An interesting movie about the recent exploitation and perhaps redirection from the original mission of the Barnes Foundation, a Philadelphia based art school and owner of an art collection estimated to be worth over $25 billion. The film centers on the Philadelphia elite establishment's attempt to gain control of the collection and move it from its founder's chosen location, the school he founded in a suburban neighborhood, deliberately kept from downtown Philadelphia. Even if you're not interested in art, this documentary unravels an interesting story of a 20th century entrepreneur's life.

Saturday Night Live - Jeff Bridges
Jeff Bridges is a dynamic actor that threw himself into the SNL skits like some of the best recent SNL hosts such as Justin Timberlake and Alec Baldwin. This is worth watching.

GoDaddy
I use GoDaddy as the registrar for all of my domain names, and I refer other people to them for cheap, simple, turnkey web hosting. However, in this one case, GoDaddy inadvertently charged me for a service, Website Tonight, for which I never enrolled. After logging into my account and cancelling it, I wrote to their customer support organization and demanded the credit card charge be reversed. They complied but never explained why or how the service was opened on my account.

Breach
This is a excellent retelling of the capture of Robert Hanssen, an FBI counterintelligence agent that shared secrets with the Soviet Union. As a devout member of the controversial Opus Dei sect of Roman Catholicism, Hanssen is portrayed as a simple family man, one you and the other characters would least suspect of committing the crime of treason, that is, if you didn't already know the ending.

For more on his biography, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Hanssen.
Rabbit-Proof Fence
A story of the early 20th century atrocities committed against Australia's aborigines, specifically in this film about children that were mixed race in the aboriginal community. As a true story that ends by featuring the actual adult characters portrayed in the movie, it may be a tear-jerker for the compassionate heart.
The Last Emperor
A classic that I somehow missed in the 80s. This movie want several Academy awards. It is a retelling of the life of the child emperor that reigned in China until it was declared a republic and then later evolved into the world's largest communist state. This movie is very long, but the plot is gripping and one is not greatly pained by the length.
The Corporation
This is an interesting movie from the historical perspective of explaining the evolution of corporations gaining rights equal to individual citizens in the US legal system. As a concept not explicitly created in the US Constitution, it takes some time to explain. Understand, of course, that many will accuse this movie of having a social justice slant, as prominent figures from the US liberal establishment are featured in it (Noam Chomsky, Michael Moore).

Rosewood
I could not fall asleep during the action packed historical drama off an African-American hamlet in Florida wiped off the map by racist paranoia after a mild white woman tells a lie.
Paradise Road
This movie was alright. It wasn't Glenn Close's best performance, but it details an aspect of the Pacific conflict with which I was unfamiliar -- the internment of US and European civilians in Japanese camps.
The Hangover
Simply a great dude film.

Everyman's War
In the same vein as "Band of Brothers," this film does a recount one man's trials in WWII. It does, however, lack the professionalism and strong storytelling of Band of Brothers.
OmahaSteaks.com
I purchased two gift packages from Omaha this year after having my parents rave about the quality of the food I sent them last year for the holidays. Omaha is a voracious direct marketing company. If you are ordering more than one item, order the first one day, then wait for the inevitable discount emails to arrive in your inbox for use when ordering the second.

riddlefish My parents love Omaha steaks as well! I'd have ordered some for my dad but I'm getting concerned with how much red meat he eats, haha. This might be a dumb question, but do they sell anything besides steaks?
cdthompso1 Yes, they have more than red meat, though of course that is the main attraction. The packages I purchased this year included pork chops, crab cakes, potatoes au gratin and chocolate cake. With the second package, thanks to a promotional email after the first was ordered, I also received 12 free hamburgers.
productjoy omaha steaks are delishhhhh! my bf got a box of steaks as a gift from his firm, and mm mmm mmm were they yummy. thanks for posting the suggestion about discount emails cause its a very helpful tip for omaha lovers

Hm... I might want to reconsider that statement, huh?
The Color of Freedom
An excellent film about the man that guarded Nelson Mandela while he spent 20 years in prison. Thanks, Netflix recommendation engine!

cdthompso1 I have never studied much about the apartheid era of South Africa, so this film was somewhat eye opening. Following one white guard's life during this tumultuous time and his growingly close relationship with Mandela is a compelling way of showing that history.

Tina Fey's SNL roots came out. The West Coast opening scene came across much more rehearsed than the East Coast's.

30 Rock - Chain Reaction of Mental Anguish
The most intellectual sitcom

riddlefish Yeah, I'd agree with that. Lots of cultural and political references. Makes me learn stuff, though! Plus, I'm pretty sure I'm slowly becoming Liz Lemon... :S
Outsourced - Homesick to My Stomach
I'm not sure if this sitcom will last, but having discovered and enjoyed the eponymous movie first, I hope it does. I'm just not sure there are enough Americans familiar with the global economics shifts occurring to create a large enough advertiser market to keep it alive.
