Phoenix Wright App
I only have one question...

WHY IS THIS GAME SO AMAZING?! Oh gosh, it's seriously awesome. So awesome that I spent all weekend playing it when I should've been writing a 16 page paper.

Basically, you're Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. You go snooping around crime scenes, then go to court to cross examine witnesses. It's like if Law and Order had a choose-your-own-adventure, anime game. So. Awesome.

Really, Blippy?

Do I really need to write a review for this?

I mean, really?!

It's Nirvana. Everyone should understand why I'd buy it. Gosh.

girlfriday But then this makes everyone who hasn't listened to Nirvana in a while go, hey, I wanna listen to Nirvana again. So you're done a public service.
riddlefish Lol. I really want to take the "well duh I bought this" defense for something ridiculous. "Of COURSE I bought this elephant harness. Jeez, Blippy, be cool." ;p
chrismolnar Here's a question: why the greatest hits instead of the albums? I guess this one does have "You Know You're Right" on it.
charmainiel @chrismolnar i already have the albums :) i just thought this would round out my collection.
Tiny Wings App
Can't. Stop. Playing. Easier than Angry Birds, yet just as addicting.

God, I really shouldn't have downloaded this so early into the semester.

charmainiel @heiditron gosh i am so terrible at explaining things but i'll try my darndest. in tiny wings, you're a bird with,, tiny wings. so you need to slide down hills in order to build potential energy which will then help you to fly.

you basically slide and fly around trying to beat your high score/perform tricks like touching the clouds. oh, and you eat sun tokens which give you more daylight, because as soon as it's night time you just fall right asleep.
charmainiel @ad0rkab1e i feel you. believe me, i do.
Panic! At the Disco - Vices & Virtues (Deluxe Version)
OH GOD YES. OH MY GOD YES. OH OH OHHHHHH, JUST LIKE THAT! JUST LIKE, YES, YES, YES!! OHMYGAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

^^ That was me when I was listening to this album for the first time. And every time after that. It's PERFECTION, I can't explain it.

I bought a copy of the physical CD today, because it's tradition that I have a hard copy of every Panic! album. I believe this purchase is just the two bonus tracks from the deluxe edition.

Seriously though, what can I say?! Brendon and Spencer are doing just fine on their own. The songs range from catchy as hell anthems of identity crisis (see: the Ballad of Mona Lisa), to swoon-worthy serenades which make me wish my name were Sarah (see: Sarah Smiles). I'm going to be honest and say that A Fever You Can't Sweat Out will ALWAYS be my favourite album of theirs, but this one comes pretty damn close. They've managed to create a sound different from their previous albums, while drawing some influence from both of them at the same time. It's like blending the old with a new, fresh sound.

And it's just, like, gah. So ear lickin' good.

This is my personal favourite - a bonus track titled "Oh, Glory": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k68Gm-j9crM

I'm assuming this is the political philosophy app I bought, so I'll review that.

It's flippin' awesome! It features the writings of Plato, John Locke, Aristotle, Marx and so much more. I saved around $90 buying this rather than the hard copies of these texts for university. Plus I'm saving trees!

CONAN JUMP App
HAHAHAHAHAHA. Love it.
productjoy does conan air in australia?
charmainiel late night and his short run on the tonight show did. his new show used to air on like a b-grade channel.. but i haven't seen it on there for awhile :(
gkruis sad. he's the best. aussies have anythign that competes?
saunieindiego What exactly does the app do? I'm a huge Conan fan, but have android, so the app names are sometimes different. I couldn't find conan jump app, so if you tell me what it does maybe I can find something comparable. Thanks.
charmainiel @heiditron @shewalksdogs it's a free app! it's basically a crappier version of doodlejump, which is what i find hilarious. you are conan's hair and you just jump up owl feathers and see how high into space you can get :) i call it a crappier version of doodle jump because there are no monsters to shoot, so the whole thing is just you jumping. but i could watch conan's hair jumping up owl feathers forever! perhaps i'm weird like that.
charmainiel @gkruis he is the best! the only guy we had in that talk show format was a guy called rove. he was insanely popular but i personally couldn't stand him because he'd steal jokes said on conan/leno SO often. in terms of comedians though, there is an awesome duo called hamish and andy.here are some clips of them on rove: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyRrInqg-R0

MizzBlaze I always loved this movie. I've always viewed Ryan Phillippe as kind of skeezy after this though

Panic! At the Disco - The Ballad of Mona Lisa
iTunes Australia FINALLY decided to get its shit together and make this song available to buy!

Okay, on to the review. I have been in love with Panic! for a good six years now. Wow, I feel old.

Anyways, I when I first heard them, I mistook them for another band I love called Eleventeen. Eleventeen (now broken up) were a relatively unknown band, but the vocalist sounded EXACTLY like Brendon from P!ATD. So when I heard "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" playing, my initial reaction was "HOLY HELL ELEVENTEEN'S MADE IT!!!" Then I looked up at the video and said "HOLY HELL, THAT'S NOT ELEVENTEEN! But OHMYGOD THIS IS JUST AS AWESOME!!!!!!!"
I was a very annoying teenager.

Anyhoo, I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that The Ballad of Mona Lisa is one of the BEST songs Panic! has ever made. Over the years, it seemed as though the band was searching for their identity. They went back and forth trying out varying sounds - and now they've struck gold with this. This song solidifies what they're amazing at. While I still loved their indie/Beatles phase that was "Pretty. Odd.", I am glad to hear influences from their beginnings back in their music. After all, that's what won their fans over in the first place.

I'll admit, I was pretty bummed when I heard that half the band members split (especially since one of the departed was the primary lyricist), but the quality Brendon and Spencer have managed to produce on their own serves as assurance that they're gonna do pretty spectacularly on their own. I'm also so happy Brendon now has full reign over songwriting.

Side note: My love for this song only intensified once the video came out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOgpdp3lP8M.
(I absolutely adore the parallels to their first music video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vc6vs-l5dkc.)

Another side note: The video to "The Ballad of Mona Lisa" has revived my love and burning desire for a top hat.

Final side note: Ryan Ross and Jon Walker can suck it.

impulsebuyer I was a pretty big Panic fan when they had their last major album, but I hadn't heard anything new in a long while. Does this album surpass the last one?
charmainiel new album will be released march 22. judging solely on "the ballad of mona lisa", "oh glory" and "nearly witches", i'd say hells yeah, it surpasses their last album. and i've only heard the demos of the latter two, so that just shows how confident (or presumptuous) i'm being :)
jacq ZOMG another eleventeen fan! they were one of my faves in high school!
jacq pretty sure we're the only 2 people on Blippy who've heard of them.

Utada Hikaru - Flavor of Life - EP
The ballad version of this song was featured in what is probably my favourite drama of all time. Allow me to speak about this show (not so) briefly, because I truly believe everybody should watch it at least once in their lifetime.

It's called Hana Yori Dango, which translates as "Boys Over Flowers". The plot centers around Tsukushi Makino, a poor girl who attends a prestigious school overrun by filthy rich, spoiled brats. At the top of this school's food chain are four boys (known collectively as "F4") - all heirs to dominating companies in Japan and worldwide. The entire student body caters to their needs, as they are reliant on the immense funding F4's parents provide.

F4's dominance is so strong that they are able to turn the entire school against any particular individual by simply leaving a red card of warning in said person's locker. These individuals are soon so severely traumatized by the students that they are forced to transfer from the school altogether.

However, when Makino receives a red notice, she refuses to be a helpless victim and declares war on the F4 - particularly on the group's needlessly cruel leader, Domyoji.

Makino's defiance is proven to be attractive to both Domyoji and fellow F4 member, Hanazawa Rui - and here we have a perfect love triangle to focus on. Things are further complicated by Domyoji's evil mother, who refuses to let her son fall in love with a commoner like Makino.

So yes, it's very much like a soap opera.. but there's something about it that makes it amazing. And make no mistake, it's NOT just for girls - all of my male friends are obsessed with this show too.

But back to the song - it is played at every pivotal moment of season 2, so of course it was gonna work its way into my good books.

And be sure to check out the show! :)

Hey Monday - Hold On Tight
(Listen to it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qnTItlNiprc)

Hey Monday remind me a lot of Paramore - and not just because they're a female-fronted pop-punk band. I find Cassadee's vocal stylings very similar to Hayley's...but her voice is too weak to completely fulfil the imitation.

I used to have Hey Monday's entire album, and in all honesty, it wasn't that impressive. In fact, the only two tracks I liked are the ones I bought last night ("Homecoming" and "How You Love Me Now").
