Rechargeable Battery - 13-inch MacBook (White)
It was time. I think it's a little thicker than the last one, because now my mouse button doesn't push down. Or am I doing something wrong?
Apple Mini-DVI to Video Adapter
This is maybe my fourth one of these... other people's work on my computer, but mine always get lost in the mail or don't work to begin with. I'm cursed. This one works slightly better than my last one, but doesn't actually work.
Apple 60W MagSafe Power Adapter (for MacBook and 13-inch MacBook Pro)
The cost of these is kind of a racket, but at least I don't have the flimsy white-tipped kind anymore...
Jackie Brown (Two-Disc Collector's Edition)
My favorite Tarantino... so sly and fun and endlessly rewatchable.

Two tickets to see James Blake in July.

Story of the Eye: By Lord Auch (Penguin Modern Classics) by Joachim Neug...
A classic of French lechery by the most lecherous of all the French, Georges Bataille.
· $7.22 book from Amazon
The Selected Poems of Baudelaire, Dual Language Edition (Penguin Classic...
Because I always find myself attempting to quote "Le Voyage," I'd like to just get it over with and memorize the damn thing.

Practically Painless English (2nd Edition) by Sally Foster Wallace
Bought this for my girlfriend.... an English textbook by the mother of an author we both like. Pretty nerdy.

jah Neat gift! I loved Brief Interviews so much, it slew me. Really: It was so awesome I lost all ability to concentrate, and I had to stop reading. I had to stop reading Infinite Jest, too - probably I took the wrong tactic by trying to read the footnotes linearly, avoiding the cross referencing in case of spoilers. (I was more uptight back then.) Broom of the System was perfect for me. What was you favorite?
J. Spaceman / Sun City Girls - Harmony Korine: Mister Lonely
The best part of this movie is when the nuns are falling out of the sky and a Silver Mt. Zion song is playing. Not on the soundtrack, unfortunately.

The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer (A Twin Peaks Book) by Jennifer Lynch
Another fun Twin Peaks tie-in book. This is a surprisingly explicit recreation of the infamous diary of Laura Palmer, filling in some heretofore unknown details of her sordid past.
· $0.01 book from Amazon
fnoo Good stuff. Jennifer Lynch is what, his daughter?
chrismolnar yep. i think she's directed a few movies too.
fnoo Her most recent movie seems to be Hisss, aka Nagin: The Snake Woman. Sounds promising.
gkruis What put you on the Twin Peaks kick, Chris? Also, if you got that for a penny I can't blame you.
chrismolnar oh, I got these a while ago. but yeah, penny TP books can't be beat.
Brill Among the Ruins by Vance Bourjaily
A fascinating, forgotten book. Brill finds himself in middle age via a vivid encounter with Egypt.
· $5.53 book from Amazon
Last Days
A fictionalized version of Kurt Cobain's last days. It's as sleepy, ominous and pleasurable as a heroin high.

chrismolnar @girlfriday i feel like i've inadvertently seen most of his movies, they're just all so good.
gkruis Have you seen any of "Boardwalk Empire"? He's really good in that, too, of course. He's trustworthy enough to just pick up whatever he's in. If it isn't good, he always is.
chrismolnar boardwalk empire has all the great michaels! pitt, shannon, k. williams, stuhlbarg....
gkruis True!
girlfriday Boardwalk Empire is where it's at. Some tones of Miller's Crossing.
chrismolnar more people should strive to copy the Coens.
Jean-Luc Godard's Pierrot Le Fou
I can't wait to see the colors here in washed out VHS!
· $4.99 from Amazon
Civil War Journal 2. Vhs. Robert F. Lee Sherman and the March to the Sea...
I actually bought "Sherman's March" on VHS. It's a documentary from the late 80's that starts out trying to talk about the effects of Sherman's March on the American South but ends up mostly tracking down the director's old girlfriends. That might sound silly, but it's very endearing and a great rumination on relationships.

Two tickets to see DOM! Mildly bratty pop music with so many awesome chord changes.
The Doors - Hello
Not quite a "Touch Me" or "Peace Frog," but awesome nonetheless.
· $0.99 song from iTunes
chrismolnar it's just so goddamn funky!
girlfriday I had a major Doors kick the last couple days. The Changeling/Texas Radio & the Big Beat are a great one-two punch.
girlfriday I think I'm going to have to go with "Waiting for the Sun" ATM.
fnoo This is "Hello, I Love You"?

Have you heard R.E.M.'s Pop Song 89? It seems like a pretty obvious response to this song.
fnoo Whatever my favorite song is, it's off of L.A. Woman. "The Cars Hiss By My Window", maybe? "Love Her Madly"?
fnoo @girlfriday Although the album as a whole is sort of a lump, there are a bunch of great individual songs on Morrison Hotel. "Peace Frog" is one of 'em! Also, "Maggie M'Gill".
Twin Peaks: An Access Guide to the Town by David Lynch
Now that it's streaming on Netflix, I know so many people who are watching Twin Peaks for the first time! They all need this book.

fnoo I mean. In the abstract, I can see how Mad Men might come off as a profoundly white show -- at least until you get into what it's actually about. But I'm just reaching here. And that's mostly on the basis of my wife's commentary.
fnoo But -- yeah, it's kind of weird. Totally the opposite usual effect of name-dropping the show.
chrismolnar i'm kind of glad about that. both twin peaks and mad men are incredibly white shows, but i like twin peaks a lot better and i would hope it's popularity is based on merit!
gkruis I would have expected a different reaction based on timeliness alone. Mad Men is current, but Twin Peaks came out 20 years ago. @fnoo what was the approximate age demographic of the jury?
chrismolnar at the same time, mad men is a cable show with tiny ratings (despite the hype) whereas twin peaks was the number one show on TV in its day. it's kind of a class thing in that respect - if you have the time and interest in esoteric shows about rich people or if you grew up watching what was popular.
fnoo All good points. The ages were all over, but most seemed no younger than late 20s. One guy was maybe 45. The lady with the most pronounced reaction was kind of hip and intellectual. I think she was an audio engineer or something.
Now Playing at Canterbury
I'm writing a book featuring the once-famous novelist Vance Bourjaily. All of his books are out of print, but they're still available used and for cheap online.

The Faint! Fun dance band - I don't think I've gotten this sweaty for any other band.

beverlynoelle Oh man, so cool. Was it a long set?
gkruis Love the Faint. I haven't listened to them in forever. They still kicking around?
chrismolnar @beverlynoelle long enough! it's hard to dance for too long. @gkruis i guess so, but they haven't done anything in a long time.
gkruis I wonder if I could even listen to them anymore with the same ears...
chrismolnar some things it's best to leave in the past.
gkruis Too true.
