How have I missed a Reynolds movie? What oh what is this?
davekim00
He doesn't have a big role in it, Jeff Daniels is the main character, I mean if you got a couple hours to burn, but don't go in expecting much, cuz it's not going to give it to you.
dive_philospher
is this clooney's first stab into the indie scene?
gkruis
@dive_philosopher by far not his first stab. his largest alliances are with the so-called 'indy' kings, soderbergh, wes anderson, and the coens (not to mention david o. russell). most of those cats waver between popular flicks (Ocean's 11 franchise) and movies that they 'believe in' (syriana, the good german, good night, and good luck &c). how one defines indy is interesting, but clooney definitely goes in for it a lot.

He also directed a Charlie Kaufman flick, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. That was a sort of weird experiment.
gkruis
I thought he did a great job with it. I remember liking it, and Rockwell is always the bees knees. Why weird?
fnoo
On its own merits it's pretty good, and he did some interesting stuff with super-long takes and whatnot. What's weird is how he got involved, how he worked his way up to director, and how he handled the script once he got ahold of it.
gkruis
Oh, I didn't know there was a story there. Was he a conniving bastard - have you read the original script?
What was that script that Kaufman did a version of that we talked about a few months ago? I closed the tab on accident and never found it again.
Had some really funny parts in it, but I was expecting a little more. Has some pretty crude humor in it, so don't dip in if you don't enjoy that. All in all, pretty good movie.
fnoo
Much better than would expect from a failed attempt at a movie based on Halo.
bturner
Is that really what is was going to be, or am I missing the sarcasm here?
fnoo
No, really. Peter Jackson and Blomkamp were all set to make a Halo movie, when at the last minutes the rights fell through. So basically they made the best of the resources that they already had sitting around, and turned it into an original movie.
What's weird is that the movie was several years in planning, and it wasn't until they'd already put a team together, done a bunch of design work, sketched the thing out, and half-completed the script, that the suits decided they couldn't work together.
