No, it just uses the Foursquare venues, you are given troops and you use these troops to attack and defend Foursquare venues. If a venue (or building in FoursqWAR) is empty, you can occupy it and leave some troops behind in it to defend it.

If a building is already occupied, then you can use your troops to attack it and try and claim it. you only have a vague idea of how strong the defences are, so you have to deploy troops accordingly. You get promoted through the ranks based on your successes in battle.

Powerful but expensive diagramming tool for the iPad, hopefully I'm going to use it enough to justify the price.
There currently isn't an official iPad App for Facebook, just the iPhone version scaled up. This gives you everything you need and takes full advantage of the iPad's large screen.
