Forest Grove Dental Center-Dr. Ulrich Schockelt
WARNING! This review describes some dental procedures that you might not want to read about.

This is another review of Dr. Schockelt's office located in Forest Grove, OR. I had to go in for a Post and Core. Not sure what that means exactly. All I know is that he went in to get some decay that had developed under my bridge. He knew that I am low on cash so he went through the bridge instead of making me get an entirely new one. The weird (gross) thing about this procedure was when he opened up my crown that had had a root canal before the bridge was put in. He found a piece of cotton in it that was NOT supposed to be there. He'd never seen anything like it before. Ick! I had this work done in California (can't remember the dentist that did it). Hopefully that wasn't the reason I developed some decay in the area. The good news is that he cleaned everything up and I'm all good for now. Hopefully this will put off the inevitable for a while so I can save enough money to replace my bridge when I need to. They gave me a quote for $2,400 to replace it. I know it sounds like a lot and if anyone knows of a good dentist, in the area, who will do it cheaper I'd love to hear about it. The key word in that last sentence is GOOD. I think it is a reasonable charge for what you get. My current bridge is around 12 or 13 years old and that seems to be about as long as they last. I sure hope I am done with dental work for a while.

Made In Oregon
This store is located at the Washington Square Mall in Tigard, OR. I wandered into this store around Christmastime by accident really. I was looking for a graduation present for my son's girlfriend and wasn't having any luck. On a whim I walked into this store. I was pleasantly surprised by the selection of items this store sells. It runs the gamut from food to clothes to jewelry. I ended up getting a lovely pair of abalone shell earrings at a good price and she loved them. So in the end it was a great experience. The employee who checked me out was gracious and friendly.

Nordstrom Rack
This store is located on 185th Ave. in Beaverton/Hillsboro, OR. It's just an upscale Ross, really. Gasp, I know I said it but it really is. If you have the time to go through all the racks of clothing you do find some good items but it takes TIME. If you were able to come here weekly I think you could find some exceptional buys. My favorite thing to shop for here is SHOES! You can get some excellent quality shoes here for a great deal. The real difference between The Rack and Ross is the quality of merchandise. The Rack is far and away the better place to shop for high-end items. I like the way they have the store set up so there is only one line to stand in for all the check stands. It seems daunting at first but the line moves fairly quickly. If you were lucky enough to purchase the Groupon that was offered before Christmas than you got an even better deal.

Ross
This is located in Hillsboro, OR on TV Highway next to Safeway. If you have the time to sift through all the racks and racks of clothes you can find some gems. You just need to be persistent. Sometimes you can come away with nothing and other times you find more than you wanted to. It is usually messy and not very clean but no Ross really is. The employees tend to be unfriendly but not always. It doesn't seem to be a great place to work. A great place to get some deals on bed linens and household type items, as well as clothing. I will shop here again.

Trader Joe's
This is located in Beaverton, OR on 185th Ave.. When you want a specialty item or some great organic vegees this is the place to go. I buy my cat canned food from here. I used to get the pure 100% tuna for 49 cents a can but my cat became allergic to fish so I now get the chicken/liver kind for 59 cents a can. I can't find any other canned cat food, for this quality, any where else. I also pick up other items when I'm here. They have so much variety it's hard to pick any one thing I shop for. It is always clean and has very friendly employees.

Cook House Restaurant Capitola CA
This is the BEST place for breakfast in the Santa Cruz, CA area. Always busy but it has a warm and cozy feel to it. The BEST hash browns ever! The omelets rock also. The same people have been working here for ever. It's a very, local, kind of place which is nice in a tourist oriented area. Expect to be fully stuffed and satisfied when you leave this restaurant. LOVE THEM!!!!

Kohl's
I love this store. This one is in Beaverton/Hillsboro, OR. I love the merchandise they carry. The store is a little cluttered in the women's clothing section but I usually shop the markdown racks so that could be the reason why. Women tend to be messy when they shop the markdown racks. Stores never hire enough employees to keep the floor clean so this is to be expected. This being said, I still like to shop here and will continue to do so. I only shop sales though and go maybe once or twice a year. I'm not much of a shopper since money is very tight.

Starbucks
This was in Capitola, CA at the mall on 41st Ave.. I never shop at Starbucks but my sister wanted coffee beans from here for Christmas so I broke down. It was a typical Starbucks. I just think they charge way too much for their product so you won't find me at one unless someone else wants to go.

Goodwill
This location is in Forest Grove, OR. I love Goodwill. You never know what you will find anytime you go. I found an almost new raincoat for $9 which is an amazing deal. I would have paid at least $40 anywhere else. I stocked up on sweatshirts and flannels this fall and saved a ton of money. They also sell seasonal stuff like mittens, gloves, leggings/tights and beanies. Grabbed some of those for stocking stuffers for Christmas. My only complaint was with the women's tights. I opened them up for the first time and tried them on and they developed a run in them. I was busy so I waited a while before I tried exchanging them for new ones. They wouldn't take them because I had waited too long. I think the policy is you have 2 or 3 weeks to return an item or they don't exchange or give you a store credit. If I had given these as Christmas presents my daughter wouldn't have been able to exchange them either as Christmas wasn't for another month. So buyer beware on some of the items. Over all though, in these crazy economic times, this is a great way to stretch your dollar. You do have to go fairly often to find what you want but I think it's totally worth it. The employees are kind of crabby sometimes but I'm sure they aren't paid enough.

Jack In The Box
OK, so I lied in my last review. I do eat other fast food other than Taco Bell, very, very infrequently (like once every couple of years). In this case I went to the JIB in Forest Grove, OR on Hwy 8 across from Bi-Mart. This is a newer location and had a few problems when it first opened but seems to have worked them out. I had a craving for a Jumbo Jack w/ fries. It was hot and delicious. The fries could have been fresher but otherwise good.

impulsebuyer Oh the deception! It's ok, every now and then I slip up and hit Crack in the Box too ;)
Taco Bell
This is the Taco Bell in Forest Grove, OR. It is fairly new and has two drive thru lanes which is pretty cool. I have had them forget some items at this location (it seems to be a re-occurring problem for Taco Bell as I've had the same problem at various locations. I don't even eat fast food very often (maybe 3 times a year) so this is not good. I always check my bag BEFORE driving off just to make sure. The food is good if you like Taco Bell. Which I do (it's the only fast food I eat, ever). I don't have any complaints about the employees either. I will continue to eat here.

Petco
I go to Petco for doggie treats. If you go at the right time you can get training treats 30-50% off because they are about to expire. Crazy huh? Who knew that dog treats can expire. My dogs have no problem scarfing them down, expired or not. I am all about saving money anyway I can these days. Otherwise, I get my pet food at Costco because no one can beat their prices and the quality of what you get. Petco is more expensive than many other pet food stores.

Costco
I purchased a Sony Blu-ray player with instant streaming internet. It's good so far but I have had some instances where the unit couldn't download my content. I think there is a flaw in the design process somewhere because I went to Sony.com and read that other people were having the exact same problem. It hasn't happened in a while so that's good. What I paid was extremely inexpensive considering it cost $100 more a few months ago. Blu-ray players, in general, have become much more reasonable in price the last 6 months or so. The unit I purchased was one step up from the least expensive units they carry. So maybe I got what I paid for? We'll see.

Dutch Bros
This is the Dutch Bros. located on Hwy 8 in Forest Grove, OR. They are kitty corner from the Chevron Station. The employees at this location ROCK! They are so awesome, super friendly and always have a smile. The drinks are fab also and so much cheaper than the other coffee places. You know who I'm talking about :). This is my second review of Dutch Bros. because I love them so much I had to do another one.

Comcast
This is my monthly cable payment which includes my cable internet. I don't even pay for the entire amount because of where I live I don't have to pay for basic cable. I just pay for having HD and premium channels (but not HBO or anything like that). It would be around $35 more if I had to pay for the basic cable. This is entirely too much money in my opinion but they know that if you watch TV you have to pay up. They advertise that they have more HD channels than the "other" guys but I wish they had more.

Macy's
Located in Beaverton, OR off Cornell Rd.. This is for a credit card payment on a purse I purchased. I only shop Macy's for certain cosmetics and when they have killer sales. Otherwise they are just too expensive for my wallet. Good quality merchandise with generally good employees. For example, an employee mentioned an upcoming sale to me when I was looking to purchase an already marked down purse. She held it for me so I could come back in a couple of days and get another $20 off. It wouldn't have made any difference to her if I saved money so I thought that was very nice of her to do. She made my day because I love saving money.

Chevron
Located on T.V. Highway (Hwy 8) going through Forest Grove, OR. The prices are competitive for the area. The employees have always been friendly. They even have a dog treat for my doggies when I fill up. I alternate between Chevron and Costco gas (which is usually 4-8 cents cheaper). This is because Chevron gas has some good detergents in it to keep my engine from clogging up. The cheaper gas does not have the same type of cleansers that the name brand gas does. At least that is what I've read. My car runs good and that's all that matters.

Walmart Supercenter
My review is about the store in Cornelius, OR. They opened in the last 6 months or so. I have now shopped their probably about 10 times. As far as I can tell, some of the items they carry cost less than other stores, especially if you go for generics. Unless the generic item is something basic like flour, butter or sugar, beware of some items not tasting as good as the original versions. Also, don't buy the generic cotton swaps. There is very little cotton on the tip and you could hurt your ears. I would stay away from the produce section altogether. Very poor quality of produce for an area that has lots of local farmers. They should be buying locally for fresher vegetables and fruits. On the plus side, it is nice to be able to shop for groceries and clothing in the same store. The employees that I have dealt with have been courteous and helpful. It is a clean store. I just hate to buy at a big box store when I can find the same things from local merchants. I only shop here when I know I can save a significant amount of money.

Fedex
In my opinion Fedex is usually a better way to go than USPS when you're sending packages or boxes. I haven't used them to mail letters/paperwork so I don't know how good they are in that area. But I have found when shipping larger items (within the continental U.S.) they are very competitive in their pricing. In my experiences, the time it takes for delivery is better than USPS. Insurance is an affordable option also. It might be worth it to you, if you are sending anything of value or importance. I will use them again in the future.

Netflix
I ordered the Netflix where I get to watch content online or instant streaming to my television. I do not get the choice of ordering via mail. For the money you pay, it's definitely a good deal. If you like to watch a lot of movies or television shows when YOU want to watch them it's terrific. I especially like the feature that allows you to instantly stream content from Netflix to your TV. It's usually done through a DVD/Blu-ray player. It is awesome to be able to put what you want to watch in your queue and have it uploaded to your TV. I have about 70 different things in my queue right now that I can watch anytime. The cons are they don't have enough content that is newer releases or blockbuster type stuff. Also, sometimes the instant streaming doesn't load fast enough or will stop and start a lot. All in all I think it's a pretty good deal.

beverlynoelle Have you seen that Amazon Prime is offering a similar service now? I am not sure how it measures up yet, but I have a trial of that and I'm going to try it!
