I never pictured you as much of a video game guy, let alone the DS. It looks like a kids game, but it may have some potential. it'd be interesting to see how complex of solutions the game recognizes.

CoryOBrien

Scribblenauts is an awesome idea for a game, though I've heard it's not as smooth/difficult as it could be. That said, definitely a game I'd buy if I had a DS.

matt

I haven't played it yet, but it made one of the "Best of 2009" lists, and I figured I'd give it a go. I suck at "normal" video games, but enjoy things like Katamari and Portal.

You should video record the reaction of the clerk when you try to buy a single jelly bean by weight. With a debit card. :)

@avichal @cat Ahem. I grab the lead for the least expensive item! :)

cat

IT HAS TO BE A DEBIT CARD PURCHASE. that is one rule for SURE.

avichal

@matt a) it's awesome that you're beating @cat at her own game. b) hahaha those things are awesome!

cat

no. NO. no!!!! no one beats me until they get the debit card purchase. because seriously a million people have bought itunes/amazon items at $0.99.... wow..... I need to calm down..... hahahha :P

pud

First of all, this is hilarious. Secondly, @cat is right -- to beat her, you have to physically go to a store and hand someone a credit card to pay for a sub $1 item. Sounds easier than it is - last time i tried to buy an apple with my credit card (true story), the lady in line next to me insisted on paying and wouldn't let me. I felt awful -- she looked poor and i was just trying to win a stupid contest on Blippy :(

avichal

@matt I'm in Ohio now. I just saw an ad on tv for $8 jeans and $3 sweater vests. I bet I could give @cat a serious challenge for cheapest charge on Blippy.

cat

@avichal are you serious?? I'm so pro at small purchases- I don't think you realize my skills yet....

matt

@avichal I'm in Eastern Kentucky right now. Everything is 20-30% cheaper, but they still take dollars just like out in California. :)

cat

Yeah, I'm on the east coast too right now. So basically, no one stands a chance.

avichal

@cat what are the official rules of this game? I think I can beat you.

cat

@avichal the rules are: there are no rules set, until you break one... and I'm the judge of it all......hahahahhaah

I think there should be a weekly and monthly scoreboard for Largest single purchase and lowest single purchase. Perhaps a way to see Total Sum Largest for week/month and sum Total Smallest for week/month. Those could be of course be based on Visa, Amazon, etc. I am shooting to be the Frugalist of the month :)

@rmowery psht! No way. You're new to this contest mowery, I'm the most frugal around ;) bring it on.

Carl Malamud wants people to buy videos that are in the public domain so that he can digitize them and make them available to all. More info: http://www.boingboing.net/2009/12/19/ransom-americas-publ.html

matt

I love the idea of the Withings scale, but I've noticed that the consistency is poor. I got differences up to two pounds (!) just by stepping off and back on.
