I can't tell if you're joking. I've found it to be very useful. Indispensible actually

I'm not joking. I don't have 30 minutes to read reviews from people I don't know. It's 2010, let's be modern and have applications that help you with accurate and personalized search engines.

I here ya. Here's how I use it. I just search for say restaurants in my vicinity. Then I look for whichever one has the most stars and reviews. I pick out the one that has the highest of both and only bother reading the reviews to see what particular dish they liked.
I think Yelp's anonymity is its strength, because ppl can say anything with impunity. The only knock is that some results might be polarized between lovers and haters of a place. Ppl in the middle rarely bother.

Yeah, my experience with Yelp suggests that you ignore everyone who writes reviews on the site. Just use it for straight-out information, and maybe a vague sense of approval or danger.
