Did You Hear About the Morgans?
Hugh Grant proves there is almost a second dimension to his acting. Almost.

Leap Year
Somebody dates somebody else and then breaks up with them and then gets back together. And then I stick my head in the gas oven while my Netflix queue looks on and laughs.
· movie from Netflix
sergiogeorgini The red envelope burst into flames to help me light the gas.
State of Grace
Older film that for some reason I missed when it was released. Sean Penn is really good. Gary Oldman is entertaining but completely overcooks the character he plays so that it becomes a bit of parody of itself. Decent flick though.
· movie from Netflix
productjoy sean penn + gary oldman!? SOLD. queuing it up now!!!
Fuzzy Bee and Friends (Cloth Books)
An excellent read, but not as compelling as the follow up - Killer Bee and Friends - where a swarm of killer bees wipe out an entire family of talking cats that live in an abandoned railway station.

riddlefish Badass. Does it have a page where you can feel the cats' bee stings? Or would that be too much? ;p
sergiogeorgini That feature was initially included but was later withdrawn following complaints from Kindle users who felt left out.

Nice video clip of the Queen bee mingling with the drones!
beverlynoelle I really wish there was an Oprah's Favorite Bees episode. "And bees for YOU and bees for YOU and bees for YOU..."
Unthinkable
An uncomfortable film to watch which on occasions seems to border on the gratuitous - but strangely compelling to watch with an interesting conclusion.
impulsebuyer Is that Samuel L.?! How is the acting here?
sergiogeorgini Yep, it is. His acting is pretty good but I didn't find the character to be very believable.
The Road
Moody, depressing, desolate. But enough about me. Out of all the apocalyptic movies that I've watched this might be one of the most convincing. The feeling of hopelessness that radiates from this movie is very convincing, partly because the characters actually make you want to care about them.

KillTheRabbit45 This is a incredible book. way better than the movie.
productjoy awesome review, thanks for posting!
gkruis I was going to ask - any opinions on how it holds up to the book?
Stress: Portrait of a Killer
Fascinating documentary that takes a subject that's too often associated with La La land pseudo-science and hammers home a compelling message backed with real medical data from real academics. Yet more evidence that we as a species are hurtling forward on a path of self destruction.
· movie from Netflix
awesome (1) · funny · informative (1) · omgwtf
riddlefish You know, I keep telling this to my professors but they refuse to just give everyone an A. I'll have to direct them to this documentary. Does this give you any tips on how to de-stress your life?
sergiogeorgini I actually felt more stressed after watching it, so as a preventative measure maybe you shouldn't watch it! In terms of takeaways, the rather depressing conclusion was that social hierarchy determines stress - those at the top suffer less and everyone else suffers more - with real and damaging effects. So unless all the high achievers die out (as happened to group of baboons that were studied in this documentary - with fascinating results) we're pretty much screwed.
Evernote App
I like the concept of Evernote but fear I'm too lazy to do the tool justice. If you're looking for a convenient way to save links and clippings from Web sites, this would be a great choice. However, if like me you have the energy levels of a sedated kitten in a heated snuggie it might be too much of a stretch.
impulsebuyer So it is basically a notepad that you use to copy and paste things on to? Is there any difference between this and the "Notes" app that comes standard?
riddlefish I'm in exactly the same position as you are. Have you used it at all? What were your wildest aspirations for the app?
sergiogeorgini Conceptually I like the idea of being able to store a bunch of stuff in one central location and then access it across devices. Unfortunately even though Evernote is really easy to use I haven't been able to incorporate it into my daily routine which leads me to believe that I probably don't REALLY need a place to save stuff....i just THINK I do.
riddlefish Side note: the day I own a heated snuggie will be the day my life as a productive member of society ends.
Salt
Enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Decent action flick.

girlfriday I can't think of another move that attempts more plot twists. Can you?
sergiogeorgini Yep, there were definitely lots of interesting mis-directions and sleight of hand. I thought Jolie did a pretty good job too insofar as none of the twists felt forced or overly contrived.

Great soundtrack, good movie, ok twist

sergiogeorgini Great soundtrack, good movie, ok twist
gkruis Don't forget, great acting.

Did you know the direct is David Bowie's son? Formerly Zowie Bowie, now Duncan Jones.
amyuhrich Interesting. What's the plot?
sergiogeorgini @gkruis Yep, agree - acting was good. And yes, I knew he was Bowie's soon. I wonder why he changed his name? ;)

@amyuhrich Without spoiling it for you the basics are:
a) A guy is living on the Moon and working on a project vital to the Earth. His only companion is a computer/robot.
b) As the time nears for the guy to finish his mission and return to Earth to be re-united with his family, something unexpected happens that changes his perception of everything.
gkruis Hard to explain without giving away too much. Kind of like Shutter Island meets 2001 meets Truman Show meets Parent Trap meets Michael Clayton. I'd definitely recommend it. I thought the twist was pretty amazing, but i guess *some people* just thought it was ok. :) Sam Rockwell stars, and he's always great.
gkruis sergio does a much better job of explaining. i'm just being an ass.

miketarigan hands down most addictive
riddlefish I hate to admit it, but this gave me an unnatural hatred for pigs. Especially snotty, legless ones. How about you?
sergiogeorgini I think Legless Pigs would actually make an excellent sequel to Angry Birds. That could maybe be followed by Limping Shrews and then Twitching Owls!
