The Cove
As gripping as Ocean's 11, yet all the more thrilling because it tells a true story of a team of activists, who set out to reveal the slaughter which takes place in a hidden Japanese cove. The horrific way in which these fisherman treat some of the most intelligent creatures on this planet is saddening though, and certain rather bloody scenes will leave an indelible imprint in your memory.

Excellent Icelandic police procedural and thriller. Beautiful, chilly photography.

I'm not sure that I've seen any Icelandic cinema (unless you count Björk in Dancer in the Dark, which... I wouldn't), but if it's anything like Swedish or Danish cinema it should have a pretty great tone to it.

Absolutely - and it makes for great film noir atmosphere. Lots of grays and icy blues. Cold, empty expanses!
The Vanishing
Solid Dutch/French thriller, which manages to avoid most of the clichés, but does serve up a somewhat surprising, if grim ending. Remade in the 90s with Jeff Bridges by the same director, but this earlier version's said to be superior.
